5 Tips for Mastering Casual Style

It’s official, it’s cool to be casual! Long gone are the days where we have to worry about dressing up to go to the store for some milk… Unless we’re a celebrity, of course. Instead, we can totally rock the casual look whenever we want to. Yep, even if that does mean going casual to a party. However, you have to be able to master the casual style, so it doesn’t look like you’ve just rolled out of bed. Here are five tips to help you do just that.

The perfect jeans

There’s no denying that jeans have become essential for everyone’s wardrobe nowadays. You can wear them to work, on a night out with the girls, during a trip to the store, or even on a first date. However, you need to make sure they’re well-fitted and suit your body shape. Go for a bootcut or flare jean if you’re an hourglass, wider legs for pear shapes, and boyfriend jeans for when you just want to feel comfy but look great. Skinny jeans are also a winner because they can so easily be dressed up with a pair of heels.

Dressing up the top

Depending on where you’re going, it can be a good idea to dress up the top half of your body if you’re wearing jeans. This doesn’t have to be a full-on sequined halterneck, but it is worth considering how to bring the whole look together. If you’re going to work, for example, then you may want a plain white tee and blazer combo. If you’re heading out with the girls, then perhaps that sequined halterneck would actually work for you! When you have a free few hours one day, mix and match some tops with your jeans to see what looks most casual chic.

Throw on some sneakers

Ah, sneakers! They’re just the best thing to dress down a look if you don’t want to come across too OTT. You can literally wear them with everything, even that pretty summer dress that you only ever wore with heels before. Sneakers can transform an entire outfit into something more casual; they’re practically magic. Try a pair of white sneakers with a skater dress and denim shirt over the top for an awesome date night look. Or throw on some sneakers with your jeans and a blazer for a look that can go from the office to a shopping trip.

Grab a jacket

It’s winter, so it’s all about the jackets right now. Unfortunately, some of them can make you look swamped or ruin a casual look by being too formal. It’s all about striking a balance. Go for something that can be cinched in at the waist using a belt or tie, but can also be left open. Depending on your outfit, you can play around with your jacket to see what looks best that day. Stick to neutral colors such as grays, tans, and black.

Add in some accessories

To truly master your casual style, you need to know what you’re doing with accessories! If you drape yourself in a ton of jewelry, then it might make the whole casual thing look a bit weird. However, don’t add any accessories and you really could look like you have just rolled out of bed. Statement earrings are the perfect way to finish off any casual look, but you could also play around with necklaces, rings, and a scarf or two.
