PERFORMANCE UNLEASHED: Overdrive and Mercedes 24hrs Endurance Performance Run Powered by JK Tyre

23^rd September, 2018: It was a windy afternoon and dark clouds hung over the horizon. While the gods above provided a generous but intermittent down pour, JK Tyres along with Overdrive & Mercedes Benz started the “JK Tyre powered 24-hour Performance Drive” at the Buddha International Circuit. The track at the circuit was 5.1Km long with 16 hard corners. It was one of the most challenging tracks due to elevations & corners. The variables of the track also changed due to weather conditions & made the run more challenging.

An endurance run, over a span of 24 hours, saw JK Tyres’ UX 1, retrofitted into 2 Mercedes Benz C Class, blaze the tracks and successfully clock 2,200 km in 428 laps. The team was able to get an average speed of 91.67km/hr. for 24 hrs., 3:25 was the AVERAGE lap time over 24 hours including breaks, driver changes, refuelling, etc.

UX 1, the Ultra-high performance tyres by JK, were truly a trailblazer and stuck on, with the weather turning from bad to worse, to successfully complete the endurance run into the wee hours of the morning.

A team of 12 drivers participated in the Performance run. These riders used the recently launched New Mercedes Benz C-class 2018 – The car number 1 was the C 220D and Car number 2 was the C 300D. The drivers cruised on high speeds on various driving modes on the new C-class.

The professional drivers were scheduled in for one-and-a-half hours of driving at a stretch, with everyone needing to put in two stints, or more. But no one had ever attempted this long a stretch at a Formula 1 track like the BIC, where the speeds, and forces on the body, are much higher than at any other racetrack.

The tyres played the most significant role in the endurance test as they were the only variable that was not just providing stability and traction to the car but also, they need to withstand the torture at each corner as well as maintain a grip at all times.

The professional drivers’ appreciation towards the tyres is a testimony to the fact that UX1 high-performance tyres did a good job by withstanding their grounds during high speeds, high temperatures, rain showers etc., & still providing excellent gripping, handling, cornering, braking stability which enabled the drivers to complete the enduring run.

With the event coming to a successful fruition, the loud cheers from the drivers and crew members matched the hum of engines and the screech of the tyres. Corks flew in the air as bottles of Champagne were opened and ecstasy flowed with considerable latitude.
