Hello,
My gipsy soul just can't stay in one place, it wants to travel to different, interesting and out of the box places. And this is how exactly my experience was while I was staying with Raj Niwas Dholpur for my weekend trip.
Living in a city like Delhi can get extremely taxing at a time. Everyday routine, a lot of traffic and crazy word load takes a toll and one really needs some time off. But then it is not always possible to take a week off and fly down to a distant tropical place.
We found a really convenient and luxury holiday spot for all us Delhights which is at a 3-hour driving distance for the hustling-bustling city and is a perfect peaceful hideaway to let our hair down.
Elegantly nestled in the in the heartlands of Dholpur; the Raj Niwas Palace is a majestic and palatial estate, a luxurious and an enchanting place for those who want to revisit grandeur. Its history beckons one back to India’s royal past and transports you through times of exquisite lifestyles of the rich and famous. Today, this beautiful, opulent estate gives discerning guests an immersive experience which is best of both the worlds.
We took an early morning train to Dholpur and were welcomed by palace staff waiting for us with our own Royal jeeps. We sat in our royal rides and off we went. Sitting in the open jeep with air in my hair and entire towns eyes on we, I totally got Bollywood celebrity feels.
We entered the huge palace compound gate and it was like entering a different era. Huge green garden compounds with peacocks flocking around, a little lake, bridges, a restaurant and a beautiful place building that tells a story of its own.
As we were right in time for breakfast, after our yummy welcome drinks we were taken to a restaurant for hot poha, upma, south Indian and fresh cut fruit.
Post breakfast, we checked in to our pool villa and relaxed for a bit.
Went to the restaurant to grab some lunch and loaded in our gipsy's to go a boat ride. Just 5-7 away from the palace was river Chambal river where RajNiwas had their own camp that organises a boat Safari exclusively for the guests staying at the palace.
We were taken to the boat into the Chambal river. While crocodiles and alligators were baking in the sun and birds were flying all around, our boat was slowly morning forward.
We spend an hour or so and saw the sunset.
We went back to the property and went straight to have a look at the palace. Just outside the main entrance, an old-school cart was standing. Entered inside and a big hall full of antique furniture, paintings and Persian carpets. There was a sitting room, dining room with china wear. The staircase was beautiful, Chandler was just too pretty. The first floor had a few room and each has a unique theme and antique high beds. The most famous of all palace rooms are the fish room, if you ever visit, do have a look.
Palace staff arranged a born-fire for us with some tandoori snacks and drinks. Honestly, sitting in the open crisp night air with lanterns all around, good music and food was just the perfect scene for a cold winter night.
Next day we decided to walk around the property and post lunch went to the ravines of Chambal.
Off-roading in the valley of decorated was the highlight of the trip. The revines are raw, totally untouched and extremely thrilling for a adventures person like myself. You have to see my vlog for all the fun.
For our last night in Dholpur, we sit by the pool with some snacks, drinks and music and had the best time.
Next day, we had our morning tea in the lawn, baking in sun and admiring the natural beauty and hopping peacocks. After breakfast, we drove back to Delhi with a promise to come back to newly discovered gem soon!
